It's been so long since you've bought one that you aren't sure where to start. This guide to buying a laptop is here to help you decide what to get. Here are 5 things to look for when buying a laptop: ## 1. Resolution One of the things to look for when buying a laptop is resolution. It is recommended to get a [resolution of at least 1080p](https://electronics.howstuffworks.com/what-does-1080p-mean.htm). Different types of laptops will have different screen resolutions. If you can afford 1080p you should buy it because it gives full HD resolution. The number of pixels in the resolution benefits you by making it easier to read sites. It is also helpful when it comes to using two windows side by side. ## 2. Battery Life An average workweek is 40 hours which means you will be working eight hours a day. Getting a laptop that can last at least eight hours a day is a must. Spending time away from cords and outlets is the whole purpose of owning a laptop. If you want to get the most out of the laptop you buy you need one with sustainable battery life. ## 3. Functionality What makes a good laptop? Functionality. Depending on what you use your laptop for you need to make sure it has the right functions for you. Kids work better with Chromebooks because they are easy to use. [Security solutions](https://www.alura.com/solution/security-solutions) can keep your kids from getting viruses on these devices. Adults however need something with more functionality such as a Windows or macOS. Each of these devices has something different to provide. Find the right one that works for you. ## 4. Keyboard Quality Comfortable keyboards are important when deciding on what laptop to buy. If you are doing a lot of typing it is vital to get a keyboard that makes it easy for you. Some keyboards have squished in number pads that make every other key difficult to use. When writing out an important work memo or school essay the keys should not be difficult to find. ## 5. Storage Working with a lot of files can get frustrating when you don't have enough storage for them. If you have a lot of things to store on your computer for work or school laptop storage is a huge matter. SSD otherwise known as a [solid-state drive](https://www.newegg.com/SSDs/Category/ID-119) is a good thing to look for when buying a laptop.
